A temporary biometric visa application center has been opened in Male, Maldive in order to facilitate Maldivian’s citizens the need to apply for German Schengen visa.

The establishment for Germany-Schengen visa has opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will take place on March 2, 2020, as previously announced by Germany-Visa.org.

This plan was revived by the Embassy of Germany who collaborated with the Maldivian government and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to open the visa center.

The center will provide all the necessary services for biometric enrollments and filing documents from the applicants who made prior appointments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlights in a press release.

“This Clinic will take the biometric enrollments and documents from all applicants who have made prior appointments. A total of 162 appointments have so far been booked and due to increased demand, the Clinic services have been extended until 6 February 2020,” the press release reads.

According to the press release, this is the second time Schengen Visa Application Service is provided in the Maldives. It aims to facilitate the procedures for Maldivian citizens who want to travel to Germany, including those participating in Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB) Fair in March 2020.

For all citizens who were interested to be part of the Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB), the largest tourism trade fair, a mobile visa clinic will be open from 3 to 5 February, in order to make the visa procedure easier.

Under the current procedure for visa application for Maldivians, travelers have to go to the visa application center in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid and the Ambassador of Germany to the Republic of Maldives Jörn Rohde made known the plans for visa application center in December 2019, when they discussed the idea among others.

Both the Foreign Minister and German Ambassador announced that Germany has outscored visa admission to VFS Global (Visa Facilitation Services Global).

“Although the VFS Center will initially cater to only those travelling to Germany, it is our hope that other EU countries will partner with VFS “, Foreign Minister Shahid has declared.

Shahid has invited more European countries to partner with VFS Global for facilitating procedures.
